Biofuel Experts Protest New State Standards
Just how green are alternative fuels?
That depends on who you ask. The biofuels industry and local research institutes are protesting state regulations that they say unfairly penalize biofuels for greenhouse gas emissions and threaten to stall development of alternative fuels.
Local biofuels makers, investors, scientists and researchers have sent letters to the California Air Resources Board contesting a controversial piece of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which regulates transportation emissions in the state and aims to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels at least 10 percent by 2020.
