Chemical Week Names ZeaChem Acetic Acid Fermentation "Green Innovation of the Month"

Lakewood, Colo. - February 19, 2010 - ZeaChem Inc., a developer of biorefineries for the conversion of renewable biomass into fuels and chemicals, today announced that its fermentation process for scaling production of acetic acid was named "Green Innovation of the Month" by one of the chemical industry's leading publications, Chemical Week. Each month, Chemical Week editors evaluate the achievements reported by companies and organizations across the sustainable chemical field with the goal of recognizing the top innovation. ZeaChem was selected because of its achievement of a 10,000-scale increase in acetic acid production using its biorefining process, reaching industrial levels of fermentation. Soon after achieving these fermentation results, the company announced concentration of its fermentation broth into its first salable product, glacial acetic acid.

ZeaChem's "Green Innovation of the Month" distinction can be viewed on the Chemical Week home page during the month of February at www.chemicalweek.com

Acetic acid is the resulting product of ZeaChem's fermentation process, which uses naturally occurring acetogen bacteria. It is a commercial product and is also ZeaChem's intermediate building block for the production of cellulosic ethanol and bio-based chemicals.

About ZeaChem Inc.

ZeaChem Inc. has developed a cellulose-based biorefinery platform capable of producing advanced fuels and intermediate chemicals. ZeaChem's indirect approach leapfrogs the yield and carbon dioxide (CO2) problems associated with traditional and cellulosic based biorefinery processes. In addition, ZeaChem has a significant capital cost advantage compared to other cellulosic technologies. By efficiently extracting the most energy possible from biomass feedstocks, ZeaChem significantly increases output while reducing both production costs and environmental impacts. Incorporated in 2002, ZeaChem is headquartered in Lakewood, Colo. and operates a research and development laboratory facility in Menlo Park, Calif.
